Blade Speed, Heat and Groove Quality

Blade RPM affects cutting speed and heat at the cut. Feed rate, blade sharpness, groove depth and flooring material also affect whether seam edges soften or melt. Match the blade and operating settings to the flooring manufacturer's requirements.

The Crain operates at a fixed 12,000 RPM. Leister provides two higher-speed settings, while WOLFF offers a variable 6,000–10,000 RPM range. These settings provide different levels of operating flexibility; RPM alone does not determine groove quality.

Floor Tracking and Depth Control

The Crain 968 follows the seam with guide wheels while a separate floor-following wheel adjusts blade height. Crain specifies compensation for up to 1/8 inch of floor variation over one foot of seamline. This compensation is separate from maximum cutting depth.
